Guided striped bass fishing in Casco Bay, Maine

Scotty makes you feel like a great fisherman. He puts you right over the fish. He makes fishing super fun. His skill level is off the charts and it is obvious that others catching fish brings him great joy. He also is a great teacher and I have taken those skills he has given me for fishing on my own. He has given me the confidence, skill and knowledge to consider myself a good saltwater fisherman. I can’t wait to fish with Scotty again.

I have been fortunate to have spent many days on the water with Captain Scott Farrell and this I can say with great confidence, Scott knows how to find fish AND catch fish. Even when no one else is catching fish on Casco Bay he figures out a way to make it happen.

If your goal is to have a great day on the water and catch fish, Captain Scott Farrell is your man. Whether you are interested in fly fishing the flats or throwing jigs against structure, Scott will put you on fish.
Captain Scott Farrell has been fishing in Casco Bay his entire life. Scott knows where to go, how to fish and how to adapt to various conditions. I have been fortunate to fish with Scott many times and consider him to be amongst the best fisherman and greatest guys I have ever fished with.

It’s super fun to fish with Nicki and Scott! As an novice, they were great at giving me tips and pointers. They knew just what I needed to do to start catching!

Scott and Nicki are fishy as hell. I’ve been on the bow with Scott and Nicki many times as they expertly maneuver the boat so I can chuck large flies into the breaking surf on the rocks. They knows where the fish will be and what it takes to catch them. Scott and Nicki are also fun as hell to be with on the water. There will be good conversations and lots of laughs. Whether you’re spin or fly fishing, you can’t go wrong with the Farrells.

I’ve had the pleasure of being out on Casco Bay with Nicki numerous times and every time has been a wonderful adventure.  She knows the bay and its islands like nobody’s business and if the fish are out there,  she’ll find them. And more than just the fishing, Nicki loves exploring Maine’s coastline for wildlife, where you’ll likely see porpoises and island seals.  Nicki really cares about providing you with a great experience, and wants to share her passion, especially with women who are new to the sport. You are guaranteed to have a great time when you hit Casco Bay with Nicki.

If you’re serious about fishing hard and catching lots of big fish…Scott is your guy!

Depending on season, weather, and target species, we will use one of the methods below as we head into Casco Bay to catch fish:

Light Tackle Fishing

Light weight spin rod fishing involves using 6-7 foot medium-heavy rods designed to cast lures from 0.5-1 ounces. Equipped with 15-20 pound test braided line with a short florocarbon leader. This is our specialty.

Early season action is often inside the bay on tidal rivers or over mud flats, targeting fish feeding on the surface with top water plugs. We refer to this as “Dawn Patrol.” Later in the summer, we find fish outside the outer islands and around exposed ledges with moving water.

Fly Fishing

We use 8-9 (weight) fly rods equipped with intermediate fly line and weighted baitfish fly patterns. Fly fishing can be challenging in the ocean environment with wind and waves. For the experienced or motivated fly fishermen, we can often make it happen from either the boat or wading tidal rivers. From the boat, the fishing will be wave and wind dependent and based on angler skills.

Live Bait Fishing/Trolling

While this is our least favorite method of catching fish due to its static or passive nature we will do it mid-summer. Trolling for striped bass generally refers to tube and worm.
